Intense dark fruits fill the mouth, there's layers of complexing features that keep you interested, smoky meats, iodine and woody herbal layers are all noticed. Whilst there's ample intensity and complexity the wine doesn't sit heavy, there's a lift and light throughout and a fine-grained tannin profile brings great drive and definition to the long finish. It's by no means a massive wine but it feels voluminous thanks to the spread of flavour and the way it expands through the palate. This is a very good wine. Satsuma plum, soy, sweet spice and jellied cherry notes blend with star anise, cedar and woodsmoke. It’s medium to full-bodied, quite meaty, but also has lavish spice and grainy grip, something of a port wine jelly richness too, in with all that meat, dried herb and black olive savoury stuff, then black cherry and blood, on a finish of very good length. Also, wheatgerm, but don’t mind me. It has a fair amount of chew to it, and sooty tannin, but it’s an excellent wine. I’m either 93 or 94, but on balance, the character and personality of it wins me over.

[points rating="94" title="The Wine Front"]

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1139/8708/files/DAL_Moonambel_Shiraz_dd59ffff-0fae-4908-a493-c8c3a3b1c886.jpg?v=1722210902
2023-ldr-shiraz
2023 LDR Shiraz

Why you'll love this wine

"I love this wine and in its third only release It’s a wine that celebrates the beauty of single vineyard wines and simplistic, hands-off winemaking." – Julian Langworthy, Chief Winemaker.

[split]

Tasting Notes

colour

A vibrant purple with hints of raspberry.

aroma

Vibrant warm spice aromas leap from the glass with cinnamon and star anise coming to the fore.

palate

Fresh and modern, the palate is powder fine with the most elegant of tannin structure.
