2023 Single Vineyard Cabernets
Why you'll love this wine
"This is a very special wine that we have only released once before in 2018, my other favourite vintage for Margaret River Cabernet and Cabernet blends of all time. Making it even more special is the fact it is a mirror of my favourite site – the original Deep Woods vineyard planted in 1987. Basically, this blend is made from all of the original 'Cabernets' blocks on this fantastic property, in the proportion of these plantings."
Chief Winemaker, Julian Langworthy.
Tasting Notes
colour
Vibrant crimson with purple hues.
aroma
Violets and florals abound, wrapped in salted plums and dark chocolate notes.
palate
Sensual, fine tightly wound in structure, the textural tannins flow like silk through the palate. Deep base notes of cassis and brambly fruits carry the flavour long and ensure a rewarding a seamless finish. Pure drinking pleasure.
cellaring
This rewarding and very modern style can be enjoyed now or will develop further complexity over the next 5–8 years.
Technical
vintage
The 2023 vintage was an effortless vintage in Margaret River – not too hot, not too cold, everything was just right. The season started beautifully with a wet spring and late flowering, followed by a warm and dry season, producing wines with refined flavour, elegance and real personality.
winemaking
This vineyard makes wonderfully fine expressive perfumed wines that I think are a joy to behold. As such the winemaking is very simple, individual parcels were fermented for between 10–14 days before being racked to tank and then directly to tight grain French oak for 16 months maturation. Final blend is 15% new oak, the balance being 1 and 2 years old.

Reviews
Ray Jordan Wine Guide 2026
This is quite a fabulous wine, with the blend coming from the original Deep Woods Estate vineyard, which was planted many years ago. Intensely powerful bouquet of red fruits and that slightly liqueur cherry, bay leaf nuance. The palate is super intense and bursting with plush red fruits, supported by chalky, almost limestone-like tannins. This is a classically structured cabernet blend that will handle extended cellaring.
