2024 Single Vineyard Jacoben Pinot Noir
Tasting Notes
colour
Deep ruby in colour.
Aroma
The nose reveals vibrant red cherry, raspberry and red plum layered with black tea, dried mountain herbs, sandalwood and subtle savoury notes amaro and forest undergrowth.
Palate
The palate is pure and beautifully composed, balancing a generous core of dark red fruits with the intrinsic grace and brightness that define the Derwent Valley. Fine, pillowy tannins and vibrant natural acidity provide poise, tension and drive, while hints of sour cherry, exotic spice and earthy complexity linger through a long, savoury finish. Powerful yet refined, it is a Pinot Noir of depth, precision and quiet confidence.
cellaring
Will reward careful cellaring of seven to ten years.
Technical
winemaking
Hand-picked Pinot Noir was de-stemmed into 1.5T open-top fermenters in addition to several carefully selected parcels of whole clusters, the final blend balancing out to approximately 60% whole-bunch. Primary fermentation was left to occur naturally with no additions. Cap management was exclusively pumping over twice daily to wet the cap and minimize over-extraction. Time on skins was 21 days. The resulting wine was pressed directly to 500L French oak puncheons (35% new) where it rested with minimal intervention for 13 months prior to bottling.

Reviews
Dave Brookes, Halliday Wine Companion 2026
Sourced from a tiny 0.5ha vineyard on the east side of the lower Derwent River. Deep ruby with aromas of dark cherry and plum fruits with a sheen of wild strawberry and raspberry pip, veiled in exotic spice, dried meats, leaf litter, caraway, roasting game, crushed herbs, judicious nutty oak and citrus blossom and an expression of orange oil. More depth here yet not sacrificing tension and cut. Structured with fine, chalky tannins and a beautiful stony flair on the finish. A cracker from a superb vintage.
